Are you ready for the hospitality job of a lifetime? We are seeking a Front of House supervisor for HomeQuarter Coffeehouse and Bakery, this new, upscale coffeehouse and restaurant opened in the fall of 2018 and has already been nominated in several categories for two ‘Best of’ competitions (Planet S magazine, and Refined magazine) recognizing the unique upscale design, a menu focused on comfort foods and outstanding service. Our goal is providing an exceptional customer experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing and Brand Management

  • You are the face and voice of the business, and thus you develop a rapport with clients and maintain a professional, courteous approach to all who enter the café.

  • You and your staff are the last people to touch each order, ensure it meets our quality standards, “when in doubt-throw it out and start over”.

  • You will have a thorough product knowledge of what you sell and make for customers. You will ensure your staff know this as well.

  • Supervises sales contests, staff incentives, and collect staff feedback for new incentives.

  • Responsible for the daily placement of ‘A’ frame signage outside in courtyard and on sidewalk

  • Internal signage on counter, on windows, on Welcome board, on TV should all be checked daily for accuracy and timeliness and, if necessary, contact manager for errors or suggested changes.

  • Ensures courtyard outside the café and sidewalk immediately adjacent to building is clear of snow, debris, etc and presents a welcoming environment.



  • You will maintain daily drinks and drink supplies inventory.

  • Complete order forms for supplies and provide to Manager as necessary. Checks incoming product against order sheets, notes discrepancies and practices product rotation in storage areas.

  • As a creative person you will develop, price and advertise new drinks for customers in conjunction with management. There will be a seasonality to the drink menu that will ensure new products are added regularly.

  • Maintains front counter look and restocks as necessary.

  • Maintains a clean, neat and attractive service counter area and front of house area for customers.

  • Performs daily duties of working in the café area – making drinks, running the till, cleaning, etc.

  • Maintains standards of cleanliness and sanitation for day to day operations as well as weekly cleaning schedules.

  • Is aware of servicing and maintenance needs of pieces of equipment in your area and notifies management when repairs and maintenance are needed.

  • Ensure daily opening and closing procedures are done correctly.

  • Looks after Patio when functioning in season



  • Competent operation of the POS system, and related credit card processing technology. Become the ‘go to’ person for all staff on training and troubleshooting this equipment.

  • Assist with daily revenue reporting and sales forecasting with the management team.

  • Track and minimize waste and maintain controls to attain forecasted food/beverage costs.


Human Resources

  • Act as a liaison between front staff and management.

  • Works with staff on training them to be efficient, courteous, and excellent at their job of serving customers. The Front of House Supervisor supervises all staff in the front of house, on all shifts.

  • Maintain a close and respectful relationship with your staff to ensure they are motivated, educated and enthusiastic every shift. This will include informing them of happenings in the restaurant on an ongoing basis.

  • Advises management of any performance issues with staff.

  • Advises management of any discipline taken with staff.

  • Responsible for creating shift scheduling for front of house staff.

  • Assists in evaluation and interviewing potential staff with management.

  • Attends all scheduled employee meetings and offers suggestions for improvements.

  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards at all times.


Qualifications and Education

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Barista training is not necessary but we will train the right person as a barista

  • ‘Serve it Right’ qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills in working with multiple staff.

  • Computer skills (word, excel, dropbox,)

  • Cash register (POS) skills

  • Able to stand and attend to counter duties for full shifts

  • Creative and has a passion for food and drink

  • Must be punctual, organized, enthusiastic, and have exceptional people skills and can use these to lead by example, motivate staff and address customer concerns.

  • As a team player you must possess great listening skills, be a personable team leader, have great communication skills, able to make decisions based on factual information and stand by those decisions.

  • You must be able to take initiative and work unsupervised.

  • You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Personal integrity and honesty are important as well as being professional in dress and manner.

  • As this is a salaried position you must be able to be flexible in your work schedule as is required from time to time.


  • Relevant combination of education and experience in business studies, management, culinary arts, or hospitality management

  • Practical experience in relevant management, preferably in one of the following; catering, hotel, restaurant, wait staff, customer service, work experience.

  • Appropriate personal qualities. ‘In service to others’, nurturing (staff), respectful of clients & suppliers, inquisitive mind always seeking improvement and embracing change, Passionate about food.
